Welcome Friends!

Those of us who feel a kinship with our companion animals have long known the
deep and satisfying bond that forms with our pets. How many of us have
experienced the boundless joy and truly unconditional love when greeted at home
by wagging tails, cold wet noses and purring kitties?

Animals encourage us to look beyond ourselves to a more interactive relationship
with those in our environment. Perhaps for no single human demographic is this
more important than to those who are elderly or chronically infirm. The health
benefits of opening one's home and heart to a companion animal have been
well-documented in both the medical and psychosocial literature.

Friends of Kindred Spirits was born out of the belief that there is a symbiotic
relationship to this bond that is to be encouraged and celebrated. As the
Founders of FOKS, my veterinarian husband, Mark Hanks, and I (a nurse
practitioner on the human side!), have not only the passion but also the
experience with both the human and animal side of the equation that allows us a
unique perspective on how to best serve the needs of both groups.

Thank you for your interest -- we invite you to join us on our journey to build
an intentional community of caring individuals willing to help in a variety of
ways to assist elders and those in hospice care to build and maintain these
important health and life-affirming relationships!
